A showdown of historic proportions
For a background on Ireland’s recent upping of the ante on Brexit then Tony Connelly’s comment piece on RTE is a must read.
In it he outlines how and why Ireland upped the ante – a combination of emerging consensus among EU negotiators about Brexit’s prospective impact on Ireland and also a concern that Ireland would lose clout by not dealing with concerns around those issues ahead of phase two talks.
In doing so they were keeping pressure on the British side and also providing something tangible for their EU 26 partners.
All of it though says Connelly is leading to a December showdown of historic proportions.
