Senior Tories talk to Labour on ‘soft Brexit’ plan

Press reports in London say that senior Tories have been in touch with Labour to seek support in forcing Prime Minister Theresa May to take a more conciliatory line in talks with the EU

The Evening Standard, edited by former chancellor George Osborne, and the Daily Telegraph both reported that Cabinet ministers have contacted Labour MPs to secure cross-party backing for continued membership of the Single Market and customs union. Ruth Davidson who heads up a new team of 13 Scottish Conservative MPs, said : “This isn’t just going to be a Tory Brexit”. An unnamed minister told the Standard: “This is no longer a question just for Government. It is clear to me that Parliament will want to assert its role in a way it did not before.”
