Invasion of the Brexit briefs

In all the analysis of the impact of Brexit on Irish imports and exports, not many of us thought of solicitors. By the end of the year there will be 1347 new solicitors on the Irish register according to the Law Society of Ireland. That is 500 more than the previous record set in 2008 and four times as many as last year, and in fact only 462 of them are Irish. More than 800 of the new registrations, described by the Society as a Brexit-driven tsunami, are from England and Wales, due to what the Society described as a Brexit-driven tsunami of solicitors eager to retain membership of an EU register. Just two large international practices account for almost 200 of the registrations.
