The recent RedC poll we reported on reflected a view across nine European countries that the interests of the remaining 27 EU countries must come first ahead of any special arrangement with the UK.  This piece in the New Statesman by Jeremy Cliffe, who is the Berlin bureau chief of the Economist, takes a specific and informative look at the German psyche which chimes well with the poll and concludes that there is a growing fusion of thought in Germany over Brexit. It believes now Britain must pay to show there is no deal better than membership of the European Union.
